good times...good friends...

i've realized since living in uganda, how precious time spent with friends is. at home in the states, theres always something to do and somewhere to go and theres no problem with going and doing it by yourself. but here in uganda, travelling alone, especially as a female, is sometimes harder and people don't usually go to eat or shop by themselves.

these past few weeks i have been surrounded by other volunteers and it has been amazing. i've had people to share meals with, to shop with, and to converse with in "real" english rather than "ugandlish". i've gone dancing, to coffee shops, and other places that have made me realize how so many small things can really make a difference to a bad day, week or month.

don't get me wrong, i love village life. i love the simple pleasures and i am starting to even be happy enough with bucket baths and latrine life! having to light my lantern at 7p doesn't phase me and going to bed early and rising with the sun just seems normal now. i wouldn't trade those experiences for anything. i wish more people could experience these things because they really make you appreciate what you have and you realize how little you really need in order to get by in life.

something else i really love, is shopping for fabric! last week i found a fantastic orangish-tan and dark brown skirt with leaves, elephants and a symbolic sun on it and i had a skirt made from it and its beautiful. today i found a fantastic navy blue and gold fabric with specks and flowers that i am hoping to have a dress made out of and possibly another skirt/jacket. we'll see how i feel and what the tailor says. i love that all my new clothes fit me perfectly and weren't made for that generic body. something else that is rather amusing, is that when i was last measured for a skirt, the tailor asked me if i had eaten lunch. i told her that i had just eaten a huge breakfast. she was just amazed at how big my hips were relative to my waist. i thought it was amusing! hahaha.

well i think that's all for now. i am still uploading pictures. i hope you are enjoying them. i will keep you posted with my news. have a good one. miss you all! love you! -- al

Hey!
Read this and thought of you. See you in a few months!

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round heads in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. But the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And, while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.” —Jack Kerouac
