New Beginnings...
Well, its been a month and much has happened.
I had technical training in Kampala (aka: a week of long meetings...)
I have been teaching math...I gave them a test and they did very well. I am so proud of them.
I went to Sipi Falls last weekend. That wasn't the greatest of times, but its okay. I was impaled on a barbed wire fence. Now for the story...I was hiking up the steep, slippery, and narrow trail that just happened to be lined with barbed wire...well of course i sliped just after i mentioned how bad of an idea it was to have barbed wire on the side of the trail. I then went to move my left hand after I fell and realized I couldnt move it. I looked up and it was stuck on the fence. I pulled myself to my knees/feet and looked at my right hand which was covered with mud and blood (bad combination in uganda). well i removed my left hand from the fence, walked to the main road and washed out my hand and then went back to the campsite to clean with soap and bandage my hands...bad times. i am bummed that i didn't get to finish the hike, but i'll get to do it another time. then when i went to leave sipi on tuesday, i noticed that i was down 100,000 ugs (~$60.00) uugh...bad weekend.
I moved to my new site yesterday! It is great so far...i have electricity and running water with a toilet and shower! i am living in two rooms in an extension of an older womans home. things seem to be going well. I am also two houses down the road from another peace corps volunteer which is always interesting. but you can't expect me to have lived in a home for about 24 hours and not have at least one story to share...well hopefully this one will live up to your expectations:
so the other volunteer came over and saw my house and then he cooked me dinner at his house since i didn't have any food. well i got back home around 9pm and went to use the toilet (you know normal...) well after i was done in my nicely tiled bathroom, i couldn't open the door. i'm looking around and trying the handle and i can't get out of the bathroom. i start to panic. the lady's house is dark and i started wondering what i would
do if i was trapped in the bathroom forever...i mean the outer doors to my section were locked so noone could get in...and the windows have bars over them so i cant escape that way...so i started yelling! the woman comes out and i tell her what happens. i ask her for a screwdriver so that i can take the handle off so maybe i can open the door that way...it doesnt work. the door was hollow so i ask her if i can break the door to get out, she says yes and goes for a hammer. (the problem was that the nobby thing that goes into the frame wouldnt move). so she returns with a hammer and plyers and i realized that i could turn the knob that the handle wasn't tyurning and get out. so i didn't have to break the door, but less than 9 hours after moving into my house i had a crisis and got locked in the bathroom. needless to say i haven't closed that door since. hahahaha.....
well i hope i kept you entertained. oh another thing..i want to upload pictures, but i cant seem to find the cord to my camera...bummer. i'll let you know if/when i get more up! hope all is well with you. things are as good as can be expected here! miss you all!

Yay!! You have a new home! How is it so far? With running water and a tiled bath one could say you've joined the ranks of the "Posh Corps" ;-) Just kidding. I'm really cold here wrapped up in a blanket in my living room. I think I'm getting a sore throat too. If you ever get sick of your hot weather we should think about a climate swap. Hope all is well!
hey!
only 5 weeks left!!
ugh, still a few weeks of thesis writing left for me, though.
